Easter seems a lot like Christmas when you can't eat candy....

Eggs are probably Ella's favorite food, and that we before she learned there were other things to do just besides eat them!
She took the egg dying very seriously, although she didn't want to let the eggs sit for very long and would have only used the purple if I had let her.
"I hold em." My mom is not one for messes, so the look on her face says it all about how difficult it was for her to watch Ella do this project, especially when she put her whole hand in the cup of green dye to take an egg out. There was a reason I had her wearing a black shirt for this!

I think that it is a little early to start potty training, but Ella will tell us when she goes to the bathroom and is very interested in when we go to the bathroom, so it was good timing when Lauren asked us if we wanted to borrow their potty chair. We figured we may as well introduce her to it and get her used to sitting on it. Whenever she is trying to do something difficult for her, some new big girl task, she will try it and then go sit on the potty and try it again. She was insisting on wearing her raincoat (as much as she was insisting on NOT wearing pants) and needed to put it on herself, so when she couldn't get it right in the living room, she went right to her magic potty seat and tried again there for several minutes.
She did have more success with the boots on the potty than on the floor....

Ella had lots of important jobs at the shower including peeking at what was in the bags and trying out the toys...
sharing her toys with Oliver, who was probably more interested in her shoes than her toys...
painting the wrapping paper...
helping to open the gifts, especially the really big ones...
sharing her cupcake ice cream with her babies. Busy day!

For Kate's shower we made cupcakes in ice cream cones (very confusing concept for an 18 month old) and some cones make with washcloths and diapers. Looked pretty cute if I do say so myself...
Here is the quilt I made her.
These cupcake ice cream cones were not quite as easy to make as the internet lead me to believe. First batch in the trash, but then we figured it out!!!

Ella had her 18 month appointment today (she is actually 19 months old today though...) She is doing great, no concerns other than the 1 full hour wait before the appointment which seems to be standard procedure at South Shore Pediatrics. She was 33.5 inches tall and weighs 27 pounds 4 ounces. Her height is just shy of the 90%ile and her weight was right between the 75th and 90%.
She is not a fan of the doctor and was under no circumstances going to open her mouth when the doctor was trying to pry it open with a tongue depressor. I'm not sure if she has ever heard the phrase "you catch more flies with honey" but if she would have just asked her to say "aaahhhhh" I'm sure Ella would have been more than happy to show her inside her mouth. Ella got 2 shots, one in each arm, which she got over rather quickly. She did repeatedly tell me that her mouth hurt on the ride home and then promptly asked me for some ice cream... I need some ice cream too I think. Maybe later though, I needed to eat breakfast (being that it was at that point 1130am and our appointment had been scheduled for 10am and I hadn't had time to eat any. Here Ella is above with her bandaids on waiting for some scrambled eggs- nice and mushy for her sore mouth.

Ella is starting to remember and talk about what Winnie eats. She can only remember 2 of the 3 things at any given time though, she will either say "apples" "carrots" or "hay" "apples" but never all 3 things. We were prompting her to talk about it here on video, but she will bring it up on her own during the day, if she sees a picture of an apple or carrot, she will usually talk about the horse, or if she sees a picture of a horse or a barn. She gets so excited that she remembers that it is hard to catch that she is actually saying words sometimes because they come out so fast!

Omi had to go to work on Friday, so Poppy got ALL the girls to himself in the morning. He made us pancakes for breakfast (well Ella ate breakfast twice, but who's counting) and entertained both girls while we all got ready to drive home!
Hopefully the first of many great visits with us all together!

Who can resist girls in matching jammies? When we planned our slumber party I went on a hunt for matching PJ's for them to wear. Unfortunately they don;t really make them in both the girls sizes, so we had to settle for coordinating froggie jammies. I think they are still cute!
Ella was exactly the same with Taylor as she was when we went to Chicago. She was not super interested in her at all unless she was crying, and then Ella would just repeatedly announce "Baby Crying... baby hfdjskgh crying...!!!" Now given how Ella is quite opinionated about what she does when I was a little surprised at how gentle she was with Taylor when we put them on the chair together. We asked her to put her arm around her, and she did. I think she is appropriately cautious of babies- she was completely silent and did not move a muscle while Taylor was sitting next to her. Their age difference seems huge now, but pretty soon I'm sure they will be as thick as thieves before we know it (or whatever saying you'd rather insert here...)!

We are very excited that Pat, Tif and Taylor have moved back from Chicago. All the girls got together for a slumber party at Omi and Pop's house. We took a field trip to the aquarium. Ella loved all the low fish tanks that she could walk right up too. Taylor slept the whole time we were there. I think that the sea lion show would have been a bigger hit if it wasn't naptime... Oh yeah, we were the people who had a baby laying on the middle of the floor just screaming. Time for a nap anyone?
Ella and Omi with the sting rays. She was a little nervous of these, but I think enjoyed looking at them.
And the turtle! Thanks Omi, we'll have to try again this summer when we are in a better mood. I wonder what time the aquarium opens in the morning?...

The Bubble Guppies is Ella's favorite show. I'm not sure if that is totally accurate because it is the only show she watches, but she loves it, so we will say it is her favorite. She get to watch it while I take a shower; it is the only way I can ensure that she is safe while I am out of the room for 10 whole minutes. This is what she looks like when I leave the room, and this is exactly what she looks like when I come back in!

I accidentally zipped Ella's neck into her coat a couple weeks ago, but she is reminded of it several times a day especially when I zip up her pajamas each night. She will point to her neck (exactly the part that I zipped) and say "SOSOrry" in a super whiney voice. I must have said I was So Sorry a few times right when I did it. I felt to bad, but now I keep telling her that it happened a long time ago and she is ok. I hope she doesn't have ziphobia for her whole life!

Our friend Kiera came over for dinner and took some great pictures of Ella for us. She is thinking about starting a photography business and Nate volunteered to set up her website for her in exchange for portrait shoots. As soon as it gets nice out we are going to be heading into the Public Garden to take more pictures.
This one is my favorite! I love the sneaky look she has on her face!

And what would the reenactment be without an ice cream cone to share? Nate and I have been wondering when Ella will start to remember things, events, etc and discuss them with us later, like when will she start to tell Nate that we went shopping, out for lunch, or got a speeding ticket? I think pretty soon. She has not had an ice cream since the end of last summer or early fall, so we'll say 5 or 6 months ago. Well when she saw Nate coming with the ice cream cone, she dropped her ball, and ran to him yelling "ICE CREAM!" I think I better slow down just to be safe...

I have been wanting to update our header and background for springtime for a while now, but it has just been too cold out! Even when we have gone to the playground and played outside, we've needed coats and hats: well not today! We made a special trip to the playground with the camera just for this very purpose! Spring is finally here (only 3 weeks behind schedule).
As has become tradition, we joined the Kilgore family to watch the dress rehearsal of the battle at Lexington Green. This was as good as we could get for a family shot!
The Kilgore family.
I wish Ella's arm wasn't out in this picture. The sky was so BLUE, and it was a beautiful day, though not quite as warm as LAST YEAR
