Another Cousin...

Ella is going to have another cousin! Kate and Colin are expecting a baby in July. Now that Kate is showing just the teeniest bit, we can say how excited we are!

Happy 30th

Kate threw Colin a Surprise 30th birthday. Julie stayed at our house for an overnight visit with Ella so Nate and I could join in the festivities. Ella had so much fun, she cried when Julie went home!

We all had lots of fun at the party. Here are some video clips of everyone's horrible karaoke performances! I kept the clips short, so hopefully no one is too mad at me for posting this...

Future Lotto Winner?

Ella had a wicked bad rash last week. It started on her face and scalp one afternoon and then gradually spread over her entire body. It wasn't itchy or seeming to bother her, but where did it come from? There were 2 possibilities... the first was the vaccines she had received 11 days earlier. The chicken pox vaccine and the MMR vaccine. Both have the 1 in 20 odds of a rash (probably still not good enough to win the lotto), though the MMR is more likely the culprit with the timing of the rash. The second is the amoxicillin that she had been prescribed on the same day as the shots which she had never had before. Luckily she was finished with her dose of antibiotics so wasn't taking anymore, but still it is hard to say what caused it and probably we'll find out for sure the next time she is on the antibiotics.

I did however spend a lot of time looking at images of rashes on google, and even with this "measles-like patterned" rash, I am thankful that she won't ever have the real thing!

Pizza Party

Nate got me a pizza stone for Christmas so we had our friends over the make pizzas.

mmmm. getting ready to go in the oven.

Lauren and the kids trying the first batch. Sarah and jay were here too though not in any pictures somehow...

The dolls saw a lot of action. Ella did better than expected sharing her toys, and waking up to a houseful of people.

New Header

Jelly Bean World

Julie took Ella and I to Jordans Furniture to check out Jelly Bean world. Ella loved looking at the "Make way for Ducklings" ducks made out of jellybeans. She kept trying to pick the jellybeans up off the floor but they were really just printed on the tiles... bummer.

There wasn't just jellybean sculptures there, oh no. There was a water fireworks show (exciting). Ella and another little girl had a little dance party together. There were trapeze lessons going on that you could watch (fascinating). And there was a giant Wally the green monster (petrifying). 3/4 though- it was a great time- oh and I forgot to mention the eggnog ice cream that we shared. That was good too!

Fun new noise

One of Ellas books (boops) has a picture of a puffer fish in it with its cheeks puffed out and whenever we read it, we make this noise.

Drinking and Driving

Ella has been the queen of multitasking. Lately, she is always trying to do 2 things at once- climbing onto furniture carrying 3 things, dancing and twirling on her tippitoes. Most of the time it ends with her falling down.

Say Cheese!

You don't even have to prompt Ella to say cheese anymore. When she sees the camera she just keeps saying "CHEESE!" over and over until you put it away! tough to get a candid shot...

Snow angels

Nate taught Ella how to make snow angels.

She didn't have any idea what was going on, but loved it anyways!

Snow inside!

Since the snow was taller than Ella after this last time we figured it would be much easier to play with snow inside!

Indoor Tent

Our upstairs neighbors had set up their "beach hut" inside filled with pillows and books etc and the girls would have fun in the cozy little nook. Our beach hut finally made it out of the car and I was going to put it away, but thought that maybe I would just set it up. I thought that ours was slightly bigger than theirs, but you know how perspective of size is different inside than outside, so I popped it up in the house one afternoon. I wasn't expecting it to take up the whole living room! Ella love flopping on the couch cushions and pretending to be asleep in there.

The thought also occurred to me as I was shaking it open in the house that it may be filled with sand. I was beyond the point of no return by then so i just kept my fingers crossed and luckily we had it pretty well cleaned out the last time we used it. It would have been worth the mess though for how much fun she had in it.

Ella perfected the art of walking with her snowpants and boots on inside.

It is a little trickier outside in the real thing.

And of course snow meant getting pulled around in her sled and pushed down hills. I wonder if she will enjoy sledding as much when it involves walking and carrying your own sled up hills?

She seemed to like eating snow. Don't worry it wasn't the "yellow" kind.

Ella kept running to the sliding door and looking outside saying "snow? snow!"

VT vacation

There was no shortage of fun at the house either... The guys had several rowdy Foosball games.

The dogs were just rowdy.

And I don't think Ella has ever been to a house without a wine cork collection! She will even ask for "corks" when she goes somewhere.... it could be embarrassing at some point if we ever are visiting someone who doesn't collect wine corks!

Winter Wonderland

We traveled to VT with all 4 grandparents and lots of aunts, uncles and dogs for a fun weekend!

We arrived just before the snow and when we woke up in the morning, it was a perfect winter day!

Dogs and babies went for a hike in the woods, and the more adventurous of the bunch went skiing.

Baking Brownies

Ella helped me bake brownies for our trip to VT.

She took a turn stirring.

I couldn't get her to lick the batter though. More for me!

Nesting Cups

Ella's favorite toy right now is her nesting cups or "bups" as she calls them. She used to only nest them together, but now she will also stack them, put them on her feet, your feet, her dolls feet, and make them be a hat for herself, you, or her dolls.

Big girl pluses and minuses

Being a big girl has it's advantages and disadvantages. Watching Sunday football and eating pepperoni is probably the biggest plus thus far. Also a plus for Ella (minus for us) is that she only takes 1 nap now. We are still working out the kinks of this new schedule because she seems to "need" a nap in the morning, but then doesn't take one in the afternoon and that leads to the greatest disadvantage of being a big girl- time outs! Ella has really been testing her boundaries lately and in the heat of the moment last weekend we put her in a time out... twice. I'm not sure she really "gets it", but for us I think it felt better to do something/ anything.

Christmas Videos

Here are some of the videos we took of Ella around Christmas. We didn't get any of her opening gifts unfortunately. We are still getting used to trying to remember having the video camera with us all the time...

Here she is sledding the morning after the big storm. The snow was too deep for her sled, so she was sitting in Papa's wood puller, which is a big box on skis! She didn't like this as much as the day before because it was so windy and she kept getting hit by these gusts of snow... all part of the charm of New England. She'll learn!

Too bad the real live Santa didn't get this kind of treatment...

We really don't let Ella watch TV, but sometimes I need to take a shower when she is awake and if I block her in her room she screams the whole time. She used to be ok playing by herself and I could hear her fine. But now she is trying to climb on and into everything so who knows what could happen. The only show she will sit and watch is Curious George. She talks through the whole show at the TV.

15 Month Appointment

Ella had her 15 month appointment today! She took the opportunity to spend the 40 minutes in the waiting room practicing her twirling, running, and laughing so the other children could see how wonderful she is. She was very happy as long as none of them tried to make noises at her.

She is still growing like a weed! Her height is 32 1/4 inches (between the 90% and 95%) for girls. The doctor at every visit asks me if Nate is really tall, and every visit I say, "no not really" and then she asks if anyone else is very tall... it is verbatim almost the same conversation every visit. Her weight is 25.2 pounds (between 75% and 90%) which is the same percentile as last time. She got to stand on the big girl stand up scale today which was very exciting for her and she proceeded to practice stepping up and down on the scale while we were waiting for the doctor.

Bad news was the 3 shots she got.... MMR, chicken pox, and the 2nd flu shot. Also- I guess big girls get shots in the arms and no more in the legs. And that she has an ear infection. Now we had not suspected that she had one, so this was a surprise to me. So here we go with our first round ever of antibiotics, luckily she loves that big bubble gum flavor!

Ella decided not to nap after I had taken all the ornaments off the tree, so we needed a good way to keep her very busy. We figured trying out the art supplies she got for Christmas was the best way!

I could hear Nate prompting her to paint on the paper and not her hands. I am actually surprised that she didn't paint all over her belly!

She mostly stayed on the paper and was especially good at saying "yellow"

Her first masterpiece!

By the time she was done and had a bath, the ornaments were all put away!

First Night Boston

Julie and I met in town to check out the first night preparations since it was so nice out. We saw some interesting interpretations of snowman anatomy.

And we found a dry sunny bench surrounded by snow to enjoy the best italian sausages and watch the artists put the finishing touches on the ice sculptures. It was so nice to spend some time outside!

Indoor Playground

We went to an indoor playground with our friend Maeve called the Kids Fun Stop.

The girls had a great time climbing and playing with everything.

Ella had a little bit of a hoarding issue with the balls. She would try to pick up way more balls than she could carry and was just holding them saying "mine! MINE!"

A baby?

Ella has a little cradle envy from her dolls. She spends more time in the cradle than they do...

Big girls

There are 2 big girls who live in our building. One is in 1st grade and the other in 3rd grade. Almost everyday they knock on the door and ask "Hi, can Ella play?" Ella loves them and no matter what they want to do, somehow she always gets them to read her some books.

Who needs Christmas gifts when we have an old box?

Happy New Year!

Ella wore everyone's New Years hats!

We spent a low key evening at out neighbors house making wings and homemade pizza while the kids played.

Ella loved the ballpit that Maeve got for Christmas!
