Nate, with the assistance of Julie threw me a great surprise party at the Bell in Hand the week before my birthday. I was shocked when we got there because I thought we were going to an event for his work. I had also just been telling him the night before how I was kind of feeling in a funk or something but really couldn't put my finger on anything in particular. Turns out all my friends had basically been avoiding me for the previous couple of weeks! I guess I wasn't being crazy... mystery solved.
Leave it to Julie to get the best ice cream cake ever. She knew that all my life, all I ever wanted was an ice cream cake for my birthday, but had been told every year "your birthday is in November, it is too cold for ice cream cake." I finally got my wish! Thanks guys, you are the best!
No, I couldn't do it all in one breath...

"I'm thankful for my toys."
We had a great visit to CT for Thanksgiving. First we went to West Suffield for the actual holiday. Ella really got to spend a lot of time with family. Not a fan of potatoes, but she ate turkey, cranberry sauce, and squash, and of course pumpkin cheesecake!
Since we got to stay for so long, Ella was put to work helping papa collect and chop wood for the fireplace.
Ella's 2 favorite things about Thanksgiving were I think Papa, and the horse...
We went down to see the horse several times each day, and Ella would call to her from the house "Neeeee".
She was not so sure she wanted to give up this apple though...
Next up, we headed to Waterford to celebrate my birthday on Saturday. It was such a relaxing weekend that we didn't take any pictures. Ella remained true with her love of grandfathers and animals though giving Poppy lots of kisses all weekend!
Despite claims to the contrary, Tif has started a blog so we can all see pictures and be informed the minute that anything exciting (childbirth) happens out in Chicago, mainly in the form of pictures of Taylor, not of Tiffany giving birth. We all hope that everything goes smoothly and cannot wait to meet the baby! Wait a second Taylor if you are reading this, we cannot wait to meet you anytime after December 17th!
You can follow Pat, Tif, and Taylor's adventures here!

Ella has always loved books. But when she started walking, she got a little too busy to read the stories, we would sit her down and quickly point out a couple pictures and then she was up and away. She was just too busy and independent. But all of a sudden, she must have the ants out of her pants because she is back to being a bookworm. In general she has become much more affectionate and will walk over hand you a book and wiggle herself onto your lap (kind of a pain when I'm trying to say make her dinner but it is so sweet). I try really hard to enjoy it even when there is so much to do because I'm sure this phase will pass too and she will be on to something else and too busy to sit with us.

Ella has been imitating lots of words, especially names. She tries to say "Julie" but it usually comes out "Googie, or Doodie, or Goodie". I am pretty sure she knows who she is trying to name though! Mama, and Dada have also been officially replaced by Mommy and Daddy. Nate when in to get her the other morning and I heard her say "Hi, Daddy" So cute!

Every morning Nate and I drink our coffee in our black dog mugs. Ella loves dogs and always barks when she sees them and says "doggie" and points at the dog, and by point I mean lunges at it to touch. She understands now that "coffee" (she also says when she sees the cups) is in the cup, but we are working on leaning that it is "hot" and that she isn't supposed to touch it. I'm not sure if it will hurt or help matters but we thought it would be really cute to get her a cup of her own with dogs on it. Our neighbor actually got her a couple of them which was really nice. Try googling dog sippy cups and what you will find is lots of pictures of dogs using sippy cups... understandable error I suppose.
You can see it is not quite the same as the real thing. I actually even checked the website and The Black Dog does not currently make either sippy cups or plastic cups.... bummer.

I came out of the shower today to find Ella like this with her socks everywhere, but as I was asking her "who made this big mess?!" She was singing "clean up, clean up" Though is sounded like "Neee-Na, Neee-Na" It was very cute to see that she has indeed been paying attention when I am cleaning up her toys.

Nate brought this table home from work one day and Ella loves to sit at it. I think she likes sitting at the little table and chairs at playgroup. They are the perfect size for her, though pretty unsteady as they are made of interlocking foam pieces and fall apart pretty easily. (This is why a small table and chairs are on her Christmas wish list.)

You might have thought that after celebrating Halloween twice already that we would be sick of it by now, but NOPE! Here is Ella sporting some Halloween pigtails (or maybe piglet tails...)
We headed over to Nancy, Ben and Sarahs house to watch the Patriots game, have dinner and maybe trick-or-treat.
Sarah was in the mood to wear her wings, so we put costumes on, dragged the dads out of "mantown" and went to 3 houses! Perfect for all! Can't wait for next year!

We decided to join in the holiday festivities at the zoo this year, and went with our upstairs neighbors and their daughter, Maeve. It was a little cooler this day, so we got the use the duck suit!
Ella "why are you dressed like that? Don't you have a normal coat? You look ridiculous."
Maeve "You should look in the mirror, my friend."
The zoo had the usual animals that were pretty exciting for Ella this time. It was very exciting for everyone when the gorilla caught his poop in his hand and then ate it! No joke! And the zoo handed out all kinds of organic cereal samples and fruit snacks that Ella loved!

We joined Lauren, Will, and Rory for trick or treating in Lexington. A lot has changed since LAST YEAR! It was almost 80 degrees out so way too hot for the duck costume! Instead we opted for a Ballerina. She has warn thus TUTU before also... Ella was a little unsure here about that was going on.
Lauren and "blue tinkerbell".
Ella was apprehensive about taking candy from the bowls for the first hour or so. But after she had consumed a couple lollipops, she totally had the hang of the Halloween spirit and was grabbing handfuls of candy as fast as she could! She really liked the lollipops and I don't think she has ever been as dirty as she was when we finished. We made for about 3/4 of the way and then needed to make a break for home. It was getting too crowded and she was getting too cranky, but we got a pretty good stash of candy (for Nate and I) to share.

We went to our friends Chris and Erica's farm in Scotland, CT for their annual harvest party. It was a beautiful day and great to be outside.
Ella got to be up close and personal with lots of turkeys and some pigs.
She is getting much better at running in the grass. I love this picture!
The Screwdrivers did a performance too, but I couldn't take any pictures since Ella fell asleep on my lap listening to them...
