Ella has started attending a toddler play group at my work as a community "peer role model". She is younger than all the other kids, but does fine ( I am told) and seems to enjoy herself. She is pretty quiet while she is there, but when we get home she tells me all about what happened.... I just wish that I could understand her. At group, they have a free play period, circle time where they all go put there picture on a board and sing songs. They have an oral motor snack, climbing either outside on the playground or inside in a climbing room and then they do an art activity (spiders this week) and eat lunch! Not bad for 2 hours. And what do I do during this time- I go grocery shopping and have a coffee!
Stay tuned for pictures from Halloween!

While we were waiting for our hayride, we got to do all the other activities that we wanted. We knew Ella was really too young to get her face painted, so we picked the easiest drawing, and figured for $2 it was worth it.
I think this was the fasted pumpkin ever painted on a childs face!
We also did lightening speed pumpkin decorating, but pretty much everything fell off the pumpkin before we got home... I was a little bummed that there wasn't any glitter, things like that should always have glitter.

We love fall festivals, well I do anyway. Ella doesn't seem to mind them, and Nate agrees that we can attend 2 per year of my choosing. I am still working on convincing him that cutting the Christmas tree does not count as one...
Anyway, there was a pumpkin festival with hayrides at Pond Meadow Park and so we went. It was a beautiful day and since it was a small local thing, it wasn't swarming with rediculous people. Ella discovered that she loves collecting acorns and trying to eat them. I think even Nate had fun, except for losing his hat...

As I had mentioned previously, teething has been the primary activity of the month along with all the crankiness that can go along with it. In a desperate need of change of scenery on a pouring rainy day, I decided to go out for lunch with Ella. We went to Friendlies because it seemed like a kid friendly place to go. Well it took forever for them to come over and take our order, and I was getting pretty nervous that this was a bad decision (Julie and I have had some BAD experiences at friendlies) but luckily once we placed our order the food came quick. Ella had some pink strawberry favored milk which I thought she may drink more than regular milk, but nope just a few sips... she is just not a girl who loves milk and well neither am I. She ate an entire grilled cheese sandwich and bowl of orange slices and then when it couldn't get any better, they brought her a balloon! The balloon was so great that it actually distracted her from the ice cream. I had been planning our quick getaway for when the ice cream was finished, but didn't really need to. She carried the balloon around all afternoon when we got home!

Ella popped these 2 pearly whites one weekend in July. They haven't made it into ANY photos until this one where Ella was actually trying to say "cheeeeese" for me. The last couple weeks, she has finally also started sprouting some top teeth. Oddly enough the first to come on top was her 1 year molar on the left side followed the next day by her canine tooth. We were beginning to get concerned that she didn't have any top teeth in the center or her mouth, but sure enough one is starting to come in, finally. She has been a real trooper catching up on all this teething, and hopefully her chin will start to recover from all the drool before winter!

Ella was a little bit of a crank for most of the weekend with what initially seemed to be teething (she cut 2 teeth) turned into a cold (and then she gave it to me), but she was a pretty good sport and as usually didn't mind being passed around to everyone.
Here she is with 2 of her great grandmas.

I have been a little crazy with party planning this summer, though it has been fun, I am glad that the final party is over. We had a jack and jill baby shower for Pat and Tif and got to enjoy probably the last outdoor event of the year with a beautiful sunny day.
Many of baby Taylor's gifts were shipped but here is the quilt I made for her.

Ella enjoys a hot deep fried pickle. (healthy options were very limited)
We joined Kate and Colin at the Big E for what has become kind of a tradition (we missed last year since Ella was 1 week old... what good parents we were even back then... ) Ella loved being in the Kelty kid carrier (the hiking backpack has still never seen the woods) because she had a great view of everything that was going on, the people and all the animals. Besides her not wanted to stay in the stroller for very long (who can blame her when she is just at butt level in a large crowd?) it is really a pain in our butts to maneuver around crowded places with a stroller. The backpack is way better all around- except that it doesn't have room to hold the healthy snacks... anyways, this was not really meant to be all about the backpack.
The fair was fun, the greasy food was delicious, and the beers were cold. What else could you ask for?

.... except when you need to have a check-up and shots. Ella had her 12 month appointment and received among several shots, the flu/H1N1 vaccine. She is a healthy growing girl and is 30 1/2 inches long (90%ile) and weighs 23 lb 4oz (80%ile). She was showing off her walking skills all over the office, and also her talking skills. Ella will spontaneously say "ducky" "no" "hi" "byebye" "no way". She imitates lots of words including "papa" "poppy" "Om"- for Omi "strawberry" "more" "all done". Ella will inconsistantly sign "more" and "eat". If you ask her she will point to her belly and her head/hair. She is starting to also know the parts of the face, but isn't very accurate with her pointing yet. She will go get her shoes if you ask her to. Ella is also all done with bottles, and has been since Nate left for his hike! She is not a big milk drinker. I haven't really been concerned since she does eat a lot of other dairy foods- cheese and yogurt, but I figured I would ask the pediatrician how much milk she should have in a typical day. She said that 16-24 oz at this age is typical.... Ella probably has 4-8oz. She said that is fine and that lots of kids who enjoy their solid foods drink less milk. Phew. Overall a good visit. I was actually more impressed with the developmental questions that the doctor asked this time than I have been with previous visits. And I am pretty proud that we made it 1 whole year with only 1 unscheduled visit for the blocked tear duct, which has opened and is no longer a concern. Ella has not been on any antibiotics (except for the eye ointment) and never had an ear infection!

Ella and I went to Dan and Courtney's engagement party while Nate was on his hike. The party was on the Cape and we stayed with them and Kate at Courtney' parents house.
We had a great time at the party. I wish I had a picture or video of it, but my favorite part of the weekend was not captured by any digital media. Courtney's grandmother was sitting next to Ella while she was eating dinner and was teaching Ella how to feed their dog, Scout. Ella at first was looking at her like "I don't think I am supposed to do that" but it didn't take too long for her to join in... kind of. Ella would go to give Scout a bite, but then would decide that she actually would rather eat it herself and quickly change direction and pop it in her own mouth. I think the whole ordeal was as confusing for Scout as it was for Ella!

I like to think that we do a pretty good job of not only encouraging Ella to play with "girlie" gender specific toys. We make an effort to get her building blocks, and farm toys, and she even has construction bath toys that she likes to play with. We got this race car track from the fisher price house party we had, and I have to say, I would never ever have bought this toy for her! Not just because it is racecars, but also because it is kind of obnoxious and very loud. I think this is her favorite toy! She knows how it works now after only a couple days of using it. She knows that if she pulls the lever that it will turn on and spin, or that if you put things down the ramp it will turn on. She doesn't just put the cars on- she loves to see what all her toys do when she puts them on there. Most interesting was the doll that got the spinning treatment...

Sept 22, was a wednesday/ day care day. We brought in munchkins for all the kids for Ellas birthday. I wasn't really expecting anything big. I thought maybe they would make cupcakes or something. But when I picked Ella up, they had made her a birthday crown and necklace. She loves the necklace and wears it around the house all the time.
And she got more presents! Kelly got her this cute doll that giggles when you hug her, and another stuffed animal. Ella has been really into hugging everything lately. What a nice surprise!
I was kind of sick of cupcakes, and had gone apple picking, so I made an apple pie for her birthday instead. She was not really a big fan... oh well!

When Ella was born in September, I was very exited that we would be able to have her party outside (especially since we live in such a small place). we had her party at Webb Park in Weymouth.
Banana Buttercream frosting.... yummmmm
She was "yumming" pretty loudly and had everyone laughing, which of course made her just (bam) kick it up a notch!
Ella had lots of friends come to her party and they helped her open all her presents.
She loves all her new things. Thank you everyone!
