If you can't wear leapord stretch pants to the zoo, where can you wear them?

Next up for April vacation was going with Nancy, and her daughter Sarah to the Stone Zoo with Julie. Ella and Sarah were pretty chatty in the back seat of the car, and it was really cute to listen to them.

It was kind of a gray day, but super busy at the zoo because of vacation week. Here is a sleeping cougar basking in the sun.

Here is Ella very excitedly telling Sarah something. I love how Sarah is sitting still and listening and Ella is all blurry flapping her arms!

April Vacation!

Even though I am not a teacher and Ella is not in school, April vacation was a great week for us because it meant spending lots of time with our teacher friends, especially Julie! First up was lunch at the East Bay Grill where you can sit in the Adirondack chairs and Ella could hang out on the blanket outside and relax. In a couple weeks, I'm sure she won't be staying on that blanket anymore!!!

Julie and Megan

Here is Ella deciding who has the most nicely painted toenails... I think Megan won.

Home Improvement Projects

The next best thing when you can't sell you condo is..... you guessed it, HOME IMPROVEMENT! The first project I tackled was the pantry. It is very deep, so there is lots of stuff way in the back that I think moved here with Julie and I 5 years ago from Quincy. (YIKES)

Here is the before....

Here is me in action. I bought these pull out shelving units at Lowes with the $511 of change that I cashed in for a giftcard, so it also didn't really feel like we were spending hard earned money on something we will have to leave here when we do finally move... I was a little concerned about fitting everything back in after reading the reviews of the shelves because technically, you do lose a little space, but everything fit back in- I guess there were enough empty boxes and expired items in there to balance it out!

Here is the finished, organized, pull out pantry! I love it.

Poor Sampson

Poor Sampson was getting yelled at all weekend to stop licking Ella and taking her toys. It wasn't even his fault. How could he resist when she was shaking toys in his face most of the time, and the rest of the time was pretty much covered in yummy food!

Almost Nice

These pictures are almost really nice! You can see that we got Ella all cute and ready to have her picture taken, but....

I am wearing my dads plastic sandals, and Nate isn't wearing any shoes...

Omi and Pop did a little better, except for the potholder that my dad is holding...

The funniest part is that we took all these pictures in the front yard, and it is a pretty busy street, so we all kept getting beeped at!

In the Garden....

Sunday, it finally stopped raining, and Omi wanted to take pictures of her outside in the garden. We got a lot of cute ones, so stay tuned for the next few days...

Screwdrivers Reunion Show

Saturday night, Nate's band the Screwdrivers played at the arch street tavern in Hartford. There was an excellent turnout for the show, and they sounded great. We have been trying to catch up on sleep ever since...

Kevin on the keyboard.

Chris on the drums

Nate and Mose.

Way to go guys!

Fun at the zoo

Will says MMMOOOOO

Ella says WHOOOOOO

I am wondering to myself why I didn't step back and take a picture of the whole cut out board but then I realize that I needed to hold Ella up, and there was too many holes and it would have looked stupid with all the empty holes... in case anyone is wondering.

Franklin Park Zoo

Ella and I got a zoo pass for the year at the Franklin Park Zoo. We joined Lauren and the kids there this week. It is a good size zoo to visit with little kids, big, but not too big. Our pass is for me plus one guest, so anyone interested in joining me, just say the word :o) Here is Ella checking out the zebras.

She fell asleep before I could prop her up with something cool to take her picture... And she was too tired even to see her favorite animal, the giraffe.

Lauren and Rory checking out the giraffe exhibit.

Here is the Dad giraffe, Beau eating his lunch. The giraffe family was very active, walking all around and eating. Usually they are just standing around and it was pretty cool to see them walking.

The self timer balanced on the stroller...

We went back to the beach to get a picture dipping her feet in the water. What a brave girl- it was cold!!!

America's Next Top Model?

Ella and I (yup) had our first modeling job this afternoon! The whole ordeal was pretty interesting. Unfortunately for Ella, they had to do my hair and make-up before we started, so by the time we drove to the shoot, got me ready and were able to start, Ella was ready for another nap. So Ella was supposed to sit in my lap and look at a doll which I was holding, and I wasn't supposed to talk to her, just smile at her, and the people were trying to make Ella smile at other toys because the doll had to be facing the camera, so basically I was trying to get her to smile at the side of a dolls head. Let's just say she was less than excited about the doll and was very hungry. So we took a break and she ate, then it was time to go again.... The second try was without me, and she was sitting on the floor and this man had the doll taped to a stick and was holding it in front of her trying to get her to touch it for the picture. Ella had other ideas. She was very interested in smiling at all the people, she would NOT touch the doll (of course it was only the back of the doll that she could see and the man at the other end of the stick kept poking her with it.) Once she grabbed the doll and tried to eat it, but I don't think that is what they had in mind for the package of their new product. Ella was also really interested in the man holding the doll stick and kept turning around to look and smile at him. It was pretty funny to watch. Anyways, they said they got some good pictures and the new doll with it's Ella package would be in stores in about a year, so we'll have to wait until then to see them! All in all, I think Ella had fun, she loved it when they brushed her hair and put the powder on her face... of course!

Going Green

We have recently started using gdiapers in an effort to be more environmentally friendly. Disposable diapers each take 500 years to decompose! Given that the average baby will use approximately 8760 diapers- that is just a lot of waste! I had considered using cloth diapers, but the amount of water you use to clean them well is also pretty wasteful. These somewhat hybrid diapers are not made with any plastic, and the cloth part is washable when it gets dirty and the absorbent biodegradable insert can either be thrown away (decomposes in only 2 months), flushed or composted! Once you buy the reusable parts, they really aren't any more expensive than regular diapers. And really, could they be any cuter?

1st Day at the Beach

Wednesday, it was 92 degrees out here!!!! I could not resist taking Ella to the beach. There has been lots of concern and speculation about whether or not she will like the sand. I would say it is still too soon to tell. The beach here comes up to high at high tide, that the sand is always hard and wet. That said, I did put her feet in the ocean and she was smiling and babbling. Then I put her feet into a little tidal pool, and she was stomping her feet a little in the water and mushing her feet into the mucky sand, so I think that it is likely that she will like it!

Battle at Lexington Green

On Patriots Day every April, the people of Lexington reenact the Battle of Lexington Green between the minutemen and the Red Coats. Last weekend, they had rehearsal and since it was about 80 degrees out we decided to go watch with Lauren, Ryan, Will and Rory.

After the Red Coats attacked and killed the minutemen they marched around the fallen men playing "Yankee Doodle". That was Ella's second favorite part of the day.

Her first favorite part of the day was getting to share Nate's ice cream cone. We've started training early so that she will hopefully eat an ice cream cone neater than Nate can. This is not a difficult task since no one taught him that you are supposed to lick around the cone from the bottom to prevent melting drips from going all over your hands- he just licks from the top and in August it is very messy and funny to watch a grown man covered in dripping ice cream. I think she gets the idea!

This girl takes her love of shoes to a whole new level!

Nice weather

Ella is loving the nice weather.

And it's much less messy to practice drinking from a cup outside too!

Where was Ryan?

Even though he is not in any pictures we have of the day, Ryan was indeed here for Easter (sorry...)

She would leave these ears on all day. They don't even phase her.

Ella was fighting so hard to stay awake and not miss anything, but sleep finally got the best of her.... I am writing this now at 8:45 and she is still "napping" We haven't decided yet if we should wake her up for the bath she desperately needs to wash off all the sweat and sunscreen.
