Too much smiling?

Sometimes we take too many pictures. Ella gets too excited and they look like this!

Fun Shopping

We met Omi and Aunt Chris for lunch and some shopping on Wednesday. Very fun, although this time Ella was not as content to just sit in the stroller, she wanted to be carried around- of course no one wanted to oblige.

It's to cold!

We bought Ella this teething ring that you freeze. She likes it, however she only likes it if you hold it in her mouth for her because it is cold for her hands. I was about to trick her into kind of doing it herself one day (for like 15 seconds...)

Ella has 2 new tricks. She gives kisses, or at least that's what we think she is trying to do. She opens her mouth very wide and lunges for your face, and then smiles like she is really proud of herself (as of course we are). She never just does it once, when she decides she is in the mood for kissing, she really goes for it- like 5-10 times in a row. We are going to have pretty chapped cheeks with all this practice especially when combined with her other new trick, blowing raspberries!

You will have to excuse my greasy head in this picture- it was right when I got home from the gym one morning...

Sunday Soup

Nate got me this soup cookbook for Christmas (and I would have been mad to get "house" things for christmas, except that I bought him kitchen knives...) Here is our soup prep from last night. It isn't the first recipe we've tried, but most of the "creamy" soups recommend using an immersion blender which we didn't own until last week. Lauren and Ryan came over for cauliflower soup, which was excellent and we all unanimously decided that not enough foods have a meat garnish. This had prosciutto garnish!

Well If You Want To Freak Out, Freak Out

Ella has always loved music, especially live music. She especially loves Cat Stevens' classic "If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out." Even before she was born, when I sang it she would start kicking in utero. I guess we shouldn't have expected otherwise now that she's on the outside. Combine her love of live music with her love of this song specifically, and it's something of a perfect storm of flailing limbs and huge smiles. I especially love how, at 0:43, you can see her opening her mouth to join in on the "ah-ah-ah."

the Cow

The cow (black and white above) is by far her favorite toy, even before she was reaching for things she would smile at it more and look for it when it was around other toys. Even if it isn;t the closest thing to her, if she can see it- then she wants it!

That's So Funny I Forgot to Honk

Erin sent me this video today while I was at work and I just had to share it. Ella has been silently laughing (smiling, opening her mouth, and throwing her head back, often at the expense of her balance) for quite some time now, and on Christmas Eve at my parents' house she started doing this crazy "honk" laugh at the Christmas Penguin, but after we were all laughing at her (not with her) I think she decided to go back to the drawing board with her laugh.

She's apparently got Laugh 2.0 ready to go, brought out--yet again--by the Penguin. It sure seems like she's laughing, doesn't it? It's better than the honk, anyway.

Adventures in Babysitting: Part 2

Friday night until Saturday, Omi and Pop came to spend the night.

She slept fine for everyone and we feel a little more at ease about our upcoming 4 day long trip to Jamaica! Thanks everyone. She looks like she had a great time, and so did we.

More Birthdays!!!

Kate and Colin also celebrated birthdays this week! I had lots of pictures of Kate and Colin, but this one made me laugh because I feel like it could be taken probably any and every time we see them :o)

Ella had wiggled herself from facing forward to laying like this to nap on Christmas. She slept like this probably for an hour, and it was the quietest anyone has ever seen Colin.

I think Ella is trying to figure out what this fur is on her dress from Auntie Kate.

There are lots of winter birthdays, but now that we have started acknowledging them, I guess there is no turning back!

Adventures in Babysitting: Part 1

We had Nates work holiday party Friday night at the hotel marlow. The party was really fun and of course we didn;t get a picture of us all dressed up and fancy.... Ella seemed to have 2 great rounds of babysitting. Friday afternoon, evening Julie and Baer came over to play.

She even got to use facebook! Thanks guys.

Weebles Wobble

Ella thinks she can sit and when she wants to, she will try to do a crunch to sit up (unsuccessfully) until you help her. However once she is sitting, she cannot do anything but this because she can't move her hands. This usually ends in frustration, tears and a nap.

Cutest Baby in America

We saw that friends of ours were going to enter their son in the Cutest Baby in America contest on Regis and Kelly, so in the name of friendly competition we decided to enter Ella also. The photos had to be taken after 12/9/09 to qualify. It was hard to choose a picture because they all show a different aspect of her personality, but none of them fully capture her cuteness as we all see it!

I entered this photo.

And Nate entered this photo!

Getting all dolled up!

When I get ready in the morning, if Ella isn't napping she likes to sit up here and look at the baby in the mirror. She is very interested in all the "stuff" I use and smiles at me when I use it as if to say "can I have some?" she always smiles when I shoot her with the blow-drier!

More Peas!

We had kind of put a halt to the introduction of food when Ella got her cold because she wasn't eating as much of her bottle and we didn't want her to fill up on the cereal. Plus she seemed pretty indifferent to the cereal anyways so maybe she wasn't quite ready. She has been so interested in watching us eat though that we figured we would try something different. We had a couple jars of food from Lauren so we thought we would try the peas. We figured the best way would be to just feed her naked and then giving her a bath which I think turned out to be the right decision.

She really liked them and was opening her mouth for every bite, leaning forward and trying to "help" pull your hand with the spoon in it towards her mouth. It worked out better when we gave her a spoon of her own to hold. She was not at all this interested in the rice cereal but since it had been a couple weeks I figured I would try that again today at lunchtime... she just likes the peas way more. That cereal really has no taste at all I can't really blame her for the lack of enthusiasm, but peas?! Hey I'm not complaining!

Grammie and Papa came to visit on Sunday. Ella loved showing off all her new tricks and was exhausted when they left. She was asleep for the night at 630!!!

Back to work

I went back to work yesterday at Early Intervention. It was really not as bad as I thought it would be, I think because I knew that it is only for one day so it's not really a huge deal. Plus Ella gets to stay at home with a babysitter, so it isn't super stressful in the morning packing her up and stuff for her and bringing her somewhere else before I leave. The woman who comes to watch her is a elementary school teacher and she brings her son, Dylan with her. He is 7 months old. I think they had a pretty good day squealing at each other.

It was slightly stressful that going back to work coincided with the first night we had to just let Ella cry it out at bedtime. She was sort of fooling us with her cold into getting some preferential treatment, but she just would not go to sleep. Every 90 seconds the pacifier came out. It got to the point that when we would open the door she would stop crying and smile! We had talked about letting her cry it out before and decided that we would do it after her cold went away, but that smile was it- we put the pacifier in and shut the door and said "we are not going back in there no matter what." This girl was stubborn- one hour of crying later (and a bottle of wine for us), she finally fell asleep! Needless to say after that I was kind of dreading putting her down for a nap when I got home from work, but she went right down so hopefully tonight will be better!

Sick babe

Ella has a cold, and it's so sad because she just cannot breathe through her nose. She is having a tough time napping the way she normally does. This steam shower was our attempt at loosening up the congestion, which I think worked fairly well. She is still undecided how she feels about showers in general though!

A 3 hour tour?

Mike and Melissa made a stop to meet Ella on their great winter road trip! Unfortunately they didn't really get to see Ella at her best because she was just about ready for bed when they arrived. They really had planned the timing to spend some good quality time with Ella, but what would usually be a 30 minute drive turned into a 4 hour drive for them including one car accident! It's kind of hard to relax after a trip like that, but we are so glad they made it out to see us!

We can't wait for our next trip down to DC/VA to meet Baby Bloomrose!!

Here is Ella and Melissa.

And here is Ella's first official affiliation with a branch of the armed forces. Thanks again guys!

Happy New Year!!!!

Oh yeah, there were family hats! (I'm not sure why the snuggie made an appearance though...)
