We went to the Harris's for Christmas again the next day and celebrated while we waited in anticipation for the big snowstorm to hit! They were forecasting about 20 inches!
My mom had made aprons last year for everyone that coordinated, so I made some for Courtney, Kate and Darlene. Mind kind of sticks out, but it coordinated with other peoples...
It wasn't as hard as you might think to get them to try the aprons on. Colin liked how the ruffle was so twirly! Maybe this means, they will cook dinner soon.
There was no shortage of book reading, thats for sure!

Things went downhill pretty quickly for Omi after breakfast. She came down with the stomach bug about 15 minutes before everyone was scheduled to arrive for dinner! So my dads job description for the day want from keeping everyone's glasses full, to keeping everyone's glasses full and finishing making dinner! Everything came out great! So great there were barely any leftovers.
Mom came out to visit from a distance, but Ella wanted to make her feel better.
Yes, she left the headband on all day!
They seem to have become buddies.
Sampson was very good, and didn't knock over any elderly relatives!

Taylor Avery was born this morning at 10:44! She was an itty bitty 6 pounds 7 ounces, and was 20 inches long.
From what I hear, the new family is doing wonderfully. Congratulations Pat and Tif. Welcome to parenthood! We are all so happy for you, and cannot wait to meet the newest little princess!
Ella was not sure how to open presents and needed encouragement with almost each one. She liked it if we would peek at it first and gasp while hiding it back under the paper, and then she would rip it off to look at it!
Ella got a wicked cool sled from my parents. No snow on Christmas day, but she liked being pulled around the living room on it!
The love affair with ducks has been waning, but this little duck quacks and flaps its wings. We love it!
Even though Ella wasn't too crazy ripping through stuff yet this year, it got pretty messy. She could learn a thing or two from Sampson, he was really tearing into his gifts!

We travelled (shocking I know) to my parents house for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Ella wore this great outfit to church made by one of my coworkers. Yes, she left the hat on the whole time. No, she was not well behaved. She was actually the worst behaved that she ever has been, crawling under the pew behind us. I was actually pulling her back by the ankles at one point! She was cute, but very naughty.... the threat of Santa not coming didn't seem to be working for any of the other parents either though...
And Ryan and Sampson wore their Christmas sweaters too. Ryan to church, Sampson just wore his sweater at home. He probably would have been better behaved than Ella at church though...

Nate and Grammie took Ella to Santa's Land. They waited outside Santa's log cabin and then when they got inside were checked in by an Elf who deemed that Ella had been good and wrote "nice" down next to her name. Then the elf noted that she would like things for her dolls for Christmas. There was a cool train set up to look at and Mrs Claus was giving out hot cocoa and cookies. Then there was Santa....
you can see Santa in the corner...
Santa told her to come back next year... she did turn around to get an apple from him though.
Nate said that this was about 30 seconds after Santa... perfectly happy with a cookie. She liked Mrs Claus better I guess.
While they were at Santa's Land, I was with Julie at our own annual tradition

Last Thursday, Ella and I joined Lauren, Will, and Rory to make Christmas cookies. First up was rolling the dough and cutting the cookies.
Will and Rory washed all the cookie cutters when we were done.
Then the kids exchanged their gifts.
Time to decorate....
We had a great fun afternoon decorating our cookies followed by watching Will's ice skating lessons. Unfortunately after that things went down hill pretty quick. Ella started throwing up right as Nate and Ryan arrived for dinner. At first we thought that it was from eating too much (you can see from the above pictures, she may have eaten more than she decorated). So we tried to wait it out until she finished before we tried to drive home, but that never happened, so I rode with Ella in the back and soon we realized that it was not from eating too many cookies because I was also getting sick in the backseat.
So our whole afternoon of hard work is in the trash! We will try again next year though, or maybe make some Easter cookies...

We went to a holiday party with Ella and she loved showing off her Christmas tights!
We got to stay for more of the party than we anticipated and had fun playing the joke yankee swap game! You know it's a good party when someone drinks their wine through goggles!
Ella had lots of practice helping everyone open their presents. I don't think she will have any trouble figuring out what to do on Christmas morning!

This is right when Ella got up from her nap. we had already put the lights and breakables on the tree.
So far she has been pretty good about leaving the tree alone. There are a couple of ornaments that she does not like on the tree and will immediately take them off when she sees them. One is a hand stitched block/rattle that has my name on it from when i was a baby and the other is the snowglobe snowman that Kate got her for Christmas last year.

Ella can usually occupy herself pretty well. If I am folding laundry, cooking dinner, packing, even in the shower or go into the other room so can play and do whatever she is doing. No problem. If I do anything on the computer, however, this is not the case. She cannot stand it if I am sitting at the computer. If I am over here, she can sense it from the other room even and runs in reaching up to sit on my lap. This past weekend, she did the same thing to Nate several times. He had some work to do from home, and regardless of what she and I were playing with, if Nate was at his laptop (either on the table or the couch), she was bringing him things and reaching to climb up on his lap!

Amy and Chris came to visit for the weekend and we all had a great time. We took the kids to The Christmas Place to check out the displays and see Santa! The kids really enjoyed walking through the animated displays close up. Santa was a whole other story. Thomas ran right up to sit on Santas lap, so Amy brought Acadia up to see Santa too. Thomas was smiling and Acadia was OK, but unsure about the whole thing. Ella was smiling from afar and waving at them all. When they were finished we went up to see the fake reindeer and the closer we got the tighter she was holding onto me. She pretty quickly realized that her turn was next and was holding me so tight and crying until Santa brought out the candycanes for everyone which she promptly took and then resumed crying. I didn't even attempt to put her on Santa's lap. I didn't want to push the issue when Nate and Grammie are taking her to Santaland on the 18th... I'll be curious to hear how she does then...

Parallel play at its finest.
