Halloween in Lexington

Happy Halloween

Ella and I joined Will the pirate and Rory the butterfly and Lauren and Ryan for trick or treating in Lexington on Thursday afternoon. It was great because it was during the day so you could get a good look at all the great costumes.

Doesn't she look excited?!

Here we are ready to go! She slept the whole time, but somehow managed to collect a small bowlful of candy for Nate. I did feel as though I was being slightly judged by everyone however for having such a young baby out who obviously is not going to eat any candy. I was holding back the impulse at every store to explain that we were with our friends and just out for a walk on a nice sunny day... Also I really just wanted the coupons the stores were giving out (Nate there is one for a jewelry store in my vest pocket...) the candy was just a bonus!!!!

This dress was so cute we needed to wear it 2 days in a row... Jane had us over for a lunch party on Monday. Lucky for us- we have lots of friends who don;t work Mondays... we are going to be very busy. I think we might need to move grocery shopping day!

Million Dollar Baby

Ella has really grown up over the past two weeks! Besides following people and moving objects with her eyes, she is trying really hard to smile. Sometimes she succeeds, sometimes she doesn't, but this is one of those rare instances in life where she gets full credit for trying, because her efforts are so funny to watch either way.

She also has figured out that she can use her hands and arms to interact with those moving objects I mentioned. Erin was the first to notice that when she put Ella in this seat with a bar that dangles a ball in front of her, Ella seemed to be swatting at the ball. This video isn't one of her best performances (sometimes she really works the ball like a speed bag) but you can definitely see her trying her hardest to get everything coordinated and moving. It's exciting to see her making progress, but it also made me sad this week to realize that her age can now be measured in months rather than weeks. Who knew a baby battling a cloth ball could be bittersweet?

Behind the scenes

A lot goes into taking newborn photos! There is the feeding, the props, the sauna like heat and of course the inevitable peeing and pooping. Thanks grammie and papa for allowing this spectacle to take place at your house!

Flower Power

We had pictures of Ella taken this weekend, and here is a preview! If this is any indication of how they came out, I must say I am very happy. Ella was quite the cooperative model, and instinctively knew how to work it for the camera! The pictures will soon be posted on the photographers site- check out Debra Ann Photography

First Bath!

Ella had her first real bath in the sink. You can't tell from the pictures (she was very slippery, so there wasn't much time to take them) but she really loved it! And by loved it, I mean that she wasn't screaming. Usually she hates to be naked, but the warm water must have been very nice. So nice in fact, that she peed all over her towel when we took her out and had to put her back in! So does look like she has that "you don't look like you know what you're doing" expression on her face though...

She's a mover!

Ella has started to try to figure out how to control her arms and legs. She tried to swat at the ball when she sits in her seat for a few minutes.

Cranberry Festival

Sunday we went to the Cranberry Festival at Edaville Railroad in Carver. We must have had the baby dressed too warm because no old ladies told us that she was too cold. Although that may have been because there was too much walking so there weren't that many old ladies around! The previous day, walking around town- it was 68 degrees out and several old ladies scolded us saying that she needed to be more bundled up, mind you she was wearing long sleeves and pants, and a hat. She was in the front carrier which is hot anyways, and had a blanket wrapped around her.... Anyway back to the railroad- we went on a trainride through the cranberry bogs to learn about the harvesting.

Here is a close up of the bog after it is flooded, but before the cranberries have been beaten off the bushes.

Ella is in the other pictures, I swear, but she slept all day. Nate had to take her out of the Baby Bjorn so he could eat his fried dough without getting sugar on her head. See, we really are good parents!

Will and Rory

We went to Teaticket for the long weekend with Lauren, Ryan, Will and Rory. Will got to stay up late to wait for Ella to arrive! He was very sweet, he walked right up to her and whispered to her "I'm 4. My name is Will W-I-L-L." All weekend he would run over to her, give her a kiss on the cheek, and say "I love you, Ella!"

Nate went to New Jersey to be in a wedding, so it was a good weekend to head to CT and meet her great grandparents and great Aunties and cousins. Of course we came home with lots of great new pink clothes!

Here we are with the Neilan grandparents.

Here she is having a relaxing moment with Great Grandma Jean

Great Grandpop

Lots of kisses from Great Auntie Chris

Amy came to visit with Thomas and Acadia. It was tough to get a picture with 2 non sitters and a toddler, so we opted for a laying down shot instead! Thanks for coming all the way from Maine to meet her!

Ella is awake for much more of the day now, and very interested in looking at faces, lights and the fan of course.

Well this feels nice.

Mommy seems surprised that I love to get my hair washed and head rubbed.

Don't miss any soap while you're rinsing please.

Nice and clean!
