Sad day

It was a sad day last Thursday here when Julie moved out. Julie and I have lived together for about 5 1/2 years now (just like we always said we would). Now Nate and I will have to settle our own disagreements and it will be much more difficult for me to win a vote about what to watch on TV. For these and many many more reasons, she will be missed.

We are working on getting the condo in tip top shape to put on the market (ideally so we can buy a duplex with Julie). Unfortunately it is currently in the "it has to get worse before it can get better" stage as we are emptying out all the closets and reorganizing everything... Stay tuned for pictures and of course the much anticipated baby nursery set up pictures!

Happy Birthday Pop!!

Pop turned 80 this past week, so Saturday night most of his children and grandchildren took him out for a birthday dinner! Lookin' Good!!!

Here he is blowing out his candles back at mom's house. Only two tries to get them all out! It was a fun night and great to see everyone who was able to be there!

More practice

Our trip also included practice of more "grown-up" activities. Here are Nate and Mike testing out the weight limits of a pot rack they installed in Mike and Melissa's new kitchen.

And here is Nate holding another slightly older and more squirmy baby (Ben).

VA and DC

We took our last out of New England before baby trip this weekend to visit the Bloomroses. We had a great visit though the drive through New York City was slightly less than desirable. We occupied ourselves by listening to "The Mayflower" book on tape and learned more about the history of Plymouth, MA and the Pilgrams than I ever though possible in 3 days. We went with Mike and Melissa to a Nationals game on Saturday night which was great.

We were joking at the ballpark about how my mom likes to spell "Nate" N-A-T (no E) And so that this would be his hotdog stand...

Flag Day

We went to Amy and Chris' in Maine for their 2nd annual flag day cookout. Boys will be boys of course with their made up yard games.

And their fires....

And I guess you could say girls will be girls. We were much more into just catching up and chatting!

It was a little different crowd this year as the babies seem to be multiplying like crazy... Here is Amy and the newest 15 day old. Acadia

Congratulations Kate and Colin!!!

Saturday we went to Kate and Colin's wedding in CT. Their reception was at the Bond Ball room in Hartford which was beautiful, and they took formal shots at Elizabeth Park in West Hartford. Kate was beautiful of course (as was Colin). The weather was perfect. It was a great weekend.

In the limo

The whole group. I love how the flowers and the black dresses looked in the pictures. Very classy choices- and another plus- the dresses were wicked comfortable!

They did a shot of Dan and Nate kissing Kate on the each cheek which I was unable to capture because they did it so fast... They lingered a little longer when kissing Colin though!

Here is the best picture of Nate and I of the day. Unfortunately I don't seem to look like I am standing up straight in any pictures. Oh well...

Last day of vacation

Thursday we went to check out some caverns in Alabama and went on a cave tour. It was very cool- not way different than other caverns, but worth seeing just the same, and nice to get out of the heat in a cool cave.

Later we went geocaching around the bluff to use Nate's new GPS, and took some pictures around the bluff that we were meaning to get. Then we were trying to relax and go to bed early since we had to get up at 1:45 am to drive back to Tennnessee for the flight home...

Tuesday we went to Anna's parents house in Mentone, Alabama where they make us a huge southern breakfast, and the guys went fishing... in the rain... Tuesday night we had to say goodbye to Anna and Austin. We were sad to stay behind without them.

Wednesday we decided to drive to Tennessee to the Jack Daniels distillery. It was about a 2 hour drive to Lynchburg, but well worth it... No free samples though, since it is in a dry county!!!

On the way home we drove by the Unclaimed Baggage center where all the unclaimed baggage in the US is shipped and sold in a huge store. You could really buy just about anything there and most of it was brand new with the tags on it. Nate got a great deal on a video IPOD!

Sweet Home Alabama

Most of Sunday was spent traveling... We had a flight to Tennessee, and then got to pick up our sweet rental car.

Unfortunately it was rainy that day, but we had the top down as much as I could allow... We got to Gorhams Bluff where we stayed at the Bluffview Cottage. The first night we went to the lodge for our nice candlelite dinners!

Monday, we rode in the fancy car with the top down... It was a little windy and chilly in the back!

We went and checked out a waterfall and checked out the view at lookout point. Then the boys went swimming, and in fact were making up synchronized routines!!!

Congratulations to the Sylvia family on the birth of their daughter Acadia Mae!!!! We can't wait to meet her.

Honeymoon Debacle

Our trip to Alabama started out a little rough! First on our agenda was going to Mike and Allyson's wedding in New Jersey. We should have known we were headed for disaster when halfway down the masspike, I said to Nate "So do you know what hotel we are staying at tonight because I don't." He had booked the room, but didn't remember. The rest of the drive through CT was spend with Nate on his cellphone calling his credit card company to see if there was a charged made to a travel service near the end of April- no luck there. Then Nate resorted to searching his email through his cell phone- mind you this is not a blackberry or another phone with a screen large enough to actually read emails. Finally he found it- we had booked through orbitz a room at the hilton. Nice! We make it to the hotel with just about enough time to shower and make it to the wedding. However when we checked in we learned that the room was actually booked for Friday night, not Saturday night! And because it was booked through the travel service, we had paid for the night we weren't there... then to make things even more interesting, they were fully booked for Saturday night so we were out of luck. The woman at the desk felt badly enough for us that she called around other area hotels to find us a room somewhere else, and luckily we were able to get a room at the nearby Day's Inne... We were clean and at Mike's wedding on time. Crisis averted! Here we are at the wedding- still smiling...pretty much.
