Josie had her last day of school and then end of the year picnic last weekend also. I think she is really going to miss going over the summer.

This firetruck from the early 1900's is an original model T firetruck. I have seen it parked in a barn/garage several houses down from us. Since it was a fairly noncrowded event we got to meet our "neighbors" afterwards too.
The girl scouts and boy scouts were the only groups who didn't bail because of the rain. I think they had fun even though they were a little wet. It was pretty funny- The girls made the banner on the last meeting and I had asked Ella about it but she really had no info and "couldn't remember" anything about it (this is when I picked her up probably 10 minutes after they had finished) but when we were looking for her troop and I was seeing the other signs I would stop and say "oh is that your group?" and she eventually was like "NO our sign is blue and it has a big daisy on it with 8 petals because there are 8 girls in our troop!" Funny how memory works sometimes :)

Ruth turned 2 this past week and though her and Josie's official party isn't for a couple of weeks we still celebrated at home (of course). When I asked her what kind of cake she wanted she said "purple!"
Our friends happened to be visiting from out of town, so look at that, all of us in a picture together!
She was very excited about the singing and all, but then she just stared at the candles like this for what seemed like several minutes.
Luckily she had a couple eager assistants.
Ruth's favorite toy was this robot. She plays with it like a baby and sleeps with it every night.
It pretty much needed a bath after the first 15 minutes :)
Happy Birthday Ruthie!!!

As with most of the projects around here we tend to go a little overboard and gardening has been no exception. We had an accidentally prosperous garden 2 years ago, and then last years garden was a little more disappointing. Nate took a gardening workshop this spring so we could sort things out and got a lot of good tips. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when we had a mini greenhouse complete with grow lights set up in our bedroom. No I'm not joking.
We also thought it would get the girls a little more involved to choose and plant their own veggie plots. Josies on the left has white carrots and lettuce. Ella's on the right has purple carrots, swiss chard, lettuce and spinach.
We thought this tiered thing looked cool and would be a good place to plant other lettuce and herbs, and it is except that the chickens eat EVERYTHING and also dust themselves in all the dirt, pretty much digging up everything else. SO Nate made this lovely triangular cage.
This is our raised bed in the back yard.
And this is the one smack in the middle of our front yard. It's where the good sun is, so whatevs. The peeps driving down rt 123 at 40 miles per hour can be envious of our awesome veggies.
Next year, once we know the locations of our beds are good, we are going to build a more eye pleasing fence/gate around it.

Here's a little of the sassitude...
nope, no individual shots of Josie today.... She was being a poop.
Even though the pick your own field was closed (all picked), they were still selling a few cut blooms, so everyone was happy to choose a couple flowers.
